Lewis Steel Works Inc. was founded in 1896 by Isaac Gilbert Lewis as a blacksmith shop specializing in the repair and fabrication of parts for farm equipment.
Years later, Isaac’s son, Hebert Isaac Lewis, took over the family business and began to manufacturer logging and agricultural equipment for farms in the region.
By 1951, Lewis Steel was growing in size in scope. Robert “Bobby” Lewis became the new president and the company’s product line was expanded to include camper flats, tractor winches, and truck bodies.
After visiting a customer in Atlanta, Bobby recognized a growing need for steel containers in the waste industry. In 1967, Lewis Steel produced their first steel refuse container.
Nearly fifty years later, Lewis Steel is the largest container manufacturer in Georgia – providing over 1 million dumpsters nationwide.
